And how it inspired me to help others
I have always been interested in natural therapies and after having a session of Bowen Therapy in 2010 I found a gentle yet powerful modality that I connected and decided to make a career as a Bowen Therapist.
Then while in Singapore in 2011 I found Jin Shin Jyutsu, or should I say Jin Shin Jyutsu found me!
I connected deeply with Jin Shin Jyutsu and couldn’t wait to learn it, so that I could add this beautiful modality to my offering.
Fortunately for me, I discovered that Jin Shin Jyutsu has an added component of self help.
I learnt first hand how beneficial this self help could be when in 2012 I was diagnosed with Graves Disease, an autoimmune disease that causes the thyroid to become overactive.
For eight months I was totally incapacitated and unable to work due to the debilitating side effects of my thyroid medication and my out of control thyroid levels.
After then rejecting my specialist advice to have my thyroid surgically removed, I was desperate to get well without such drastic and permanent measure.
So I headed to New Zealand for a series of intensive Jin Shin Jyutsu treatments and then came home and religiously used Jin Shin Jyutsu Self Help moves targeted directly at the thyroid.
Six weeks later, pathology results showed my thyroid results had dramatically improved and 12 months later were within normal range.
6 years later I remain disease free. I can completely contribute my healing and continued good health to Jin Shin Jyutsu.
JIN SHIN JYUTSU
Jin Shin Jyutsu® is an ancient oriental Art of harmonizing life energy within the body. Said to predate Buddha and Moses, it was rediscovered in the early 1900's by Master Jiro Murai, who, after recovery from a "terminal" illness, devoted himself to the revival of the Art for future generations. He believed that the capacity to use this Art is born in all of us, like our hands, the tools with which it is applied.
Literally defined, Jin Shin Jyutsu is the Art of the Creator expressed through knowing and compassionate man.
It is a physio-philosophy that involves the application of the hands for gently balancing the flow of life energy in the body; more generally, it is the awakening to awareness of complete harmony within the self and the universe.
There are two important distinctions between Jin Shin Jyutsu and many other massage and oriental healing modalities to which it is often compared.
First, Jin Shin Jyutsu is an art, as opposed to a technique; a technique is a mechanical application, whereas an art is a skillful creation.
Second, Jin Shin Jyutsu is not a physical manipulation of tissue and uses only minimal pressure. The hands are used as "jumper cables," contacting 26 "safety energy locks" to redirect, or unblock the flow of energy along its pathways.
Bowen is a holistic remedial body technique that works on the soft connective tissue (fascia) of the body. Bowen therapy can be used to treat musculoskeletal or related neurological problems including acute sports injuries and chronic or organic conditions.
The Bowen move is very distinctive and is applied at very precise points on the body. It involves the movement of soft tissue in a specific way. The move is a rolling-type move of the thumbs and forefingers, and is designed to stimulate the tissue and nerve pathways, creating a focus for the brain.
The move does not slide or flick over the surface of the skin, but uses the slack in the overlying skin to move over the underlying tissue, so each move covers a small area, defined by how far an individual’s skin can move over a targeted area
